Vintage Silver Siam Thai Niello Earrings

Vintage silver niello earrings in a rare column shape with a tiny goddess Mekkala dancing on each of the four sides.

Niello is a surface decoration of lustrous metallic black tones (a little like hematite) which has been employed by highly skilled artisans in many cultures since antiquity. Almost always applied to a silver base, it involves creating a black sulfide alloy which is fused by firing onto an engraved or otherwise indented surface to create beautiful contrasting patterns.

MATERIALS: 925 sterling silver.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None found, the metal tests as sterling silver.

CONDITION: In very good vintage condition, minor surface wear.

ERA: Estimated mid-20th century.
