Victorian Silver Gilt Garnet Insect Clip Brooch

A dinky little antique insect/bug/butterfly with a garnet cabochon abdomen and tiny seed pearls adorning the wings. The fixing is a tiny but very strongly hinged clip which works by pressing the wings together.

SIZE: 2.2 x 1.8cm.

WEIGHT: 2.4g.

MATERIALS: Gilded silver, garnet, pearl.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Stamped 800 (silver fineness), with an unidentified maker's mark.

CONDITION: The brooch is in excellent antique condition. We have not overcleaned it so as to preserve the antique patina.

ERA: Estimated late Victorian/Edwardian (c.late 1800s-1914).
