Victorian Silver Dragonfly Locket Necklace

A fantastic large Victorian silver locket necklace. Although lockets from the Victorian Aesthetic era (1880s-90s) are not hard to find, this one has an unusual and beautifully ornate dragonfly and realistic plant design and is repoussé ("pressed out" from the back) and then engraved on top. 

SIZE: The locket measures approximately 4.5 x 3.6cm, not including the bail. The chain is approx 26 inches long and 3mm wide. Note the chain links are attached to the large ring which goes through the bail so the locket does not run freely on the chain.

WEIGHT: 28.3g.

MATERIALS: 925 sterling silver.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: The locket is stamped MJG with a sterling silver hallmark for Birmingham 1882. The chain is stamped STERLING on the clasp. 

CONDITION: Very good antique condition, with normal surface wear for its age and a few pin prick impressions to the back of the locket. The hinge and clasps are in good working order.

ERA: Locket 1882 (Victorian), chain possibly later.
