A lovely antique English solid silver watch chain with all the elements we like to see - a T bar, dog clip fastening, fob and watch winding key. Alberts, or watch chains, were named after Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria.

The swivel fob is set with bloodstone on one side and a red hardstone - agate or cornelian - on the other. The chain can be worn as a necklace or a bracelet.

SIZE: The chain is approximately 13.5 inches (approx 34cm) long from the dog clip to the key/T bar link. The section from that link to the top of the fob is another two inches (5cm). The T bar is 3.9cm and the chain graduates in width from approx 4mm to 6mm. The fob stone is approx 1.6cm diameter.

WEIGHT: 33.5g.

MATERIALS: 925 sterling silver, bloodstone, agate/cornelian, metal key.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Stamped SS on the T bar. Hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver on multiple links and stamped HB with the lion passant on the T bar (date unclear).

CONDITION: Very good antique condition with normal surface wear. There are some scratches on the bloodstone and a groove worn over time in the fob edge from where it has turned.

ERA: Estimated late Victorian/Edwardian (c.late 1800s-1914).
