This lovely domed brooch is an example of Victorian piqué d'or - an intricate 19th century decorative technique developed in France where gold and/or sterling silver is inlaid into a material such as tortoise shell.
SIZE: 3.5cm diameter.
WEIGHT: 6.9g.
MATERIALS: Gold, silver, shell.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None.
CONDITION: In good antique condition; a tiny bit of the silver inlay is missing but not obvious, and there are a few little nibbles around the brooch edges, see photos.
ERA: Early Victorian c.1860s.
