These stunning antique earrings are a very rare find! Each clip features a beautifully detailed figure with a square-necked dress or tunic with puffed sleeves, carrying what looks like some kind of lyre or harp - a shape echoed by the shape of the main frame of the earring. The detail and modelling of the figures continues around the back. The costumes still bear traces of their original gilding and the turquoise-blue stone in each clip is complemented by a dangling blood-red cabochon drop beneath.
SIZE: Approximately 3.5 x 2cm.
MATERIALS: Silver, enamel, metal clips.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: The earrings are hallmarked, though the marks are not fully legible, and bear the stamp BM on the back. The body of the earring is solid silver, the clip is a gold-coloured metal.
CONDITION: The earrings are in very good antique condition with normal surface wear for their age and nice snappy clips. The gilding on the clips is worn in places and under magnification it looks as though the enamel may have been touched up.
ERA: Estimated 19th century Austro Hungarian.
