Two dinky little Art Deco brooches channel set with lovely sparkly old pastes. Likely originating from Austria or Germany, c.1920s.

The French jeweller Georges Frédéric Strass invented “Paste" in 1724. True paste is crafted from a special leaded glass that was painstakingly cut and then polished by hand with metal powder until it appeared to shimmer like a diamond. It was an instant success with the chic upper classes of Parisian society and continues to be highly sought after today. Nowadays paste is often used as a generic term to describe costume gemstones.

SIZE: 2.7 x 0.2cm

WEIGHT: The green brooch is 1.2g, the pink one is 1.3g.

MATERIALS: Rolled/plated gold on silver.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: The green brooch is stamped 900 (silver fineness) with the sponsor's mark AK on the clasp. The pink pin's clasp is stamped AK.

CONDITION: In good vintage condition; the lines of the frames are a little wavy, especially around the green stones. All the pastes look to be original and are firmly set, with no chips found.

ERA: Art Deco c.1920.
