A regal 19th century engraved golden cross pendant with enamel decoration - dark royal blue on one side and cornflower blue on the other. Either side can be worn to the front, making this a versatile piece. While it's not unusual to find this style of Victorian crucifix set with Scottish agates, it's quite rare to find enamel, and particularly in coveted blue.
We believe the cross to be made of pinchbeck - a gold substitute formed of copper and zinc, now collectible in its own right, originally made to a secret formula devised by Christopher Pinchbeck in the early 18th century.
The cross is in very good antique condition with normal surface wear for a piece of its age, see photos. There is a tiny hole in one top edge visible under magnification and a small (deliberate) hole which passes through the side of the cross.
Size: The cross measures 2.7 x 3.7cm, the total drop is 4.5cm.
Weight: 5.3g.
