Victorian 9CT Gold Shell Cameo Portrait Brooch

A fine large Victorian shell cameo brooch with a lovely sensitively carved and realistic portrait of a right-facing male. The rosy gold frame is beautifully chased with a scrolling foliate design typical of the 1880s. 

SIZE: Approximately 4.5 x 3.8cm.

WEIGHT: 10.4g. 

MATERIALS: Nine-carat gold, shell.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Stamped AI 9CT on the back. The cameo itself is indistinctly signed on the reverse. 

CONDITION: In excellent antique condition. 

ERA: Estimated Victorian (c.1837-1901).
