A very pretty Georgian silver paste pendant which could be hung on a chain or ribbon. The piece is solid silver, set with beautiful old-cut foiled pastes which are very white and sparkly.
Diamonds and paste (crystal) were usually foil-backed up till the mid-19th century to make them reflect the candlelight better. Brilliant cut gemstones didn't appear until later and the old cuts didn't sparkle as much as modern stones so it gave them a little help.
SIZE: 4.3 x 1cm.
WEIGHT: 4.2g.
MATERIALS: 925 sterling silver, paste gemstones.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None. The metal tests as sterling silver.
CONDITION: Excellent antique condition; when seen under magnification there is minor surface wear to the pastes, as you'd expect with a piece of this age, but no chips or cracks.
ERA: Georgian (c.1714-1837).
