No well-to-do Victorian lady's wardrobe was complete without some type of cameo, an accessory which was popularised when wealthy English people brought them home from Italy as souvenirs of their "Grand Tour", particularly once they became a staple of Queen Victoria's dress.
This fine 19th century cameo brooch is beautifully carved in shell and mounted in a pretty nine-carat gold frame which has a lovely rich high-carat colour.
SIZE: 3.7 x 2.8cm.
WEIGHT: 5.5g.
MATERIALS: Nine-carat (375) gold, shell.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: 9C WN on the reverse.
CONDITION: Excellent antique condition.
ERA: Victorian (c.1837-1901).
