A beautiful Edwardian Art Nouveau rosy gold brooch with fiery heart-shaped opals and a trio of vivid green demantoid garnets. The clover, or three-leaf shamrock, traditionally symbolises faith, hope and love and has also long been an important symbol in Irish, Celtic, Pagan and Christian cultures. The brooch comes complete with the antique silk-lined Gieves case pictured, which may be its original home.
SIZE: 2.3 x 2.5cm.
WEIGHT: 3.9g.
MATERIALS: 15-carat gold, opal, demantoid garnet.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Marked 15CT on the reverse. Fifteen-carat gold pieces are not overly common (in the UK only really used between 1854 and 1932) and this fineness was generally used in high quality pieces.
CONDITION: The brooch is in excellent antique condition. The box is in great condition but has some pen marks inside the lid.
ERA: Estimated Edwardian (c.1901-1914).
