A pretty late-Victorian gold brooch with flower and clover motifs adorned with a fiery opal cabochon and three tiny diamond chips.
The clover, or three-leaf shamrock, traditionally symbolises faith, hope and love and has also long been an important symbol in Irish, Celtic, Pagan and Christian cultures.
The brooch comes complete with the antique silk-lined case pictured.
SIZE: 4.5 x 1cm.
WEIGHT: 2.2g.
MATERIALS: Nine-carat (375) gold, opal, diamond.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Hallmarked for nine-carat gold, Chester, 1900. Also has the sponsor's initials MW.
CONDITION: The brooch is in excellent antique condition. The box is in good sturdy condition but has a detached hinge so is in two separate pieces.
ERA: Victorian 1900.
