Art Deco Faturan Style Cherry Amber Red Faceted Bead Necklace

A vintage strand of 49 Faturan‑style beads, comprising pleasingly chunky rounded cubes, polished to a warm, slightly waxy lustre which evokes red amber. They are a closed loop strung on a wire-wrapped cord without a clasp; based on experiments here at Corvidae Towers we suggest they will fit over a head which measures less than 23 inches circumference (a fairly big female head).

We can't say for sure what the beads are made of, we believe they are likely phenolic resin. They produce an inconclusive result (pinkish/orange) when tested with Simichrome and give off a slight acrid smell when pricked with a hot pin inside a drill hole but do not produce a strong smell when run under hot water.

SIZE: The necklace is approximately 22 inches long and the beads are around 1cm square, though each is its own unique shape and size.

WEIGHT: 82.8g.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None.

CONDITION: Minor age-appropriate surface wear, minor pits on a few beads (see photos) but generally in excellent vintage condition.

ERA: Estimated mid-20th century.
