A fantastic Victorian bracelet dating from the mid-19th century, containing two lightly tinted photographic portraits. The bracelet is made of two differently woven sets of hair, likely the couple pictured, fitted into engraved pinchbeck caps with enclosed backs and more decorative engraving around each portrait under bevelled glass.
The Victorians commonly memorialised loved ones with hairwork jewellery and this may have been made by the daughter of the pictured couple.
SIZE: Each framed portrait measures approximately 2.5 x 2cm. The hair section of the bracelet is around 14cm long and the inner circumference is approx 20cm in total (just under eight inches).
WEIGHT: 13.8g.
MATERIALS: Hair, glass, pinchbeck.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS:
CONDITION: Although the bracelet is in excellent antique condition, with just a little surface wear to the metal, we would not recommend this as an item of jewellery to be worn out, it's more of a cabinet piece and will enhance any collection.
ERA: Estimated Victorian (c.1837-1901).
Antique and vintage boxes photographed are for display only and are not included unless stated in the description.
