A lovely boat-shaped Victorian opal dress ring. The rich golden colour typical of 18 carat beautifully complements the opals, which have a fantastic moonstone-like glowing quality with an interplay of primarily turquoise and violet tones. Two pairs of sparkling round hand-cut diamonds (each approx 1mm in diameter) are displayed between the three oval cabochon opals above a decorative pierced gallery.

SIZE: R (UK), approximately 8.5 (US). The gem-set face of the ring measures around 1.5 x 0.6cm and it sits approx 0.5cm above the finger. The central opal measures 4.5 x 5mm, with the two flanking opals approx 4.5 x 3.5mm.

WEIGHT: 3.4g.

MATERIALS: 18-carat gold, opal, diamond.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: The interior of the shank is hallmarked for 18-carat gold. The date letter b indicates 1897 or 1901 but part of the hallmark has disappeared where the ring has previously been resized so it's not possible to be sure which year is correct.

CONDITION: Excellent antique condition.

ERA: Estimated Victorian (c.1837-1901).
