No well-to-do Victorian lady's wardrobe was complete without some type of cameo, an accessory which was popularised when wealthy English people brought them home from Italy as souvenirs of their "Grand Tour", particularly once they became a staple of Queen Victoria's dress. This pendant contains a finely carved coral cameo sumptuously complemented by an Etruscan-style frame in the obvious rich colour of high-carat gold. The chain in the photographs is not included.
SIZE: 2.5 x 1.8cm, 3.3cm total drop.
WEIGHT: 3.4g.
MATERIALS: 18-carat gold, coral.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None, tests as 18-carat gold.
CONDITION: The back is a little dented and there are a few tiny splits around the side edges. From the front the piece is in very good antique condition and the flaws do not detract from its impact when worn.
ERA: Estimated Victorian (c.1837-1901).
Antique and vintage boxes photographed are for display only and are not included unless stated in the description.
