A pretty antique gold crescent brooch with a cute little swallow at the centre. The crescent is set with alternating rubies and pearls and has a beautifully detailed gallery around the outer edge. Late Victorian to early Edwardian, c.1900s.

In Victorian England a flying swallow was traditionally considered a token of good luck and the bird represented enduring love and loyalty, as the swallow mates for life.

SIZE: 2.5 x 2.3cm.

WEIGHT: 2.8g.

MATERIALS: Nine-carat (375) gold, ruby, pearl.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Stamped 9CT on the back.

CONDITION: In excellent antique condition.

ERA: Estimated late Victorian/Edwardian (c.late 1800s-1914).
