A wonderful chunky little crescent brooch set with beautiful sparkling old-cut and single-cut black dot pastes. The Georgians (c.1714-1837) would paint a black dot on the bottom end of paste stones (the culet) to help give an illusion of depth and make them look more like real diamonds as they glittered in the candlelight. The piece is solid silver, backed with rose gold.
SIZE: Approximately 2.1 x 2.4cm.
WEIGHT: 4.3g.
MATERIALS: Silver, paste gemstones.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None.
CONDITION: The brooch is in very good antique condition and fastens with a typical C clasp. One of the smallest end stones is not black dot and is likely a later replacement.
ERA: Estimated Georgian (c.1714-1837).
