This dazzling little piece is exactly what we want to see in a Georgian paste brooch - fantastic condition, black dot pastes* in a variety of complementary cuts and sizes, well matched in colour and incredibly sparkly, all set into silver with a rosy gold behind.
*The Georgians would paint a black dot on the bottom end of paste stones (the culet) to help give an illusion of depth and make them look more like real diamonds as they glittered in the candlelight.
SIZE: 1.8 x 2.2cm.
WEIGHT: 5.6g.
MATERIALS: Silver, gold back, paste gemstones.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None found.
CONDITION: The brooch is in excellent antique condition.
ERA: Estimated Georgian (c.1714-1837)
