A lovely early portrait of a lady miniature mounted in a silver Rococo-style scrollwork frame. A delightful brooch or simply an interesting addition to any miniature collection. It looks as though it may have been gilded at one time, if you look closely there are traces of rose gold in the crevices.
SIZE: 3.3 x 3.3cm.
WEIGHT: 12g.
MATERIALS: 800 silver, glass.
HALLMARKS/STAMPS: The clasp is marked 800 on the side and the brooch is hallmarked for 1827 across the pin, though the marks are a little hard to decipher; there are two capital As, each in a square cartouche. There is also the maker's mark F&S in a rectangular cartouche, which could be Fattorini & Sons, a respected Italian family owned company founded in England in 1827.
CONDITION: The portrait of a lady is a little grubby beneath the glass but we've not attempted to clean the painting or check for a signature as it's pretty well set in there and, certainly for older pieces, we prefer to leave them as we find them.
ERA: Georgian, 1827.
