A high-carat gold Victorian memorial ring in the style typical of the time, with black enamel decoration and tiny contrasting seed pearls. Contains a later hand incised inscription: "Mother Sept 3rd 1911".

SIZE: O (UK), approx 7 (US). The back of the ring is around 2mm wide, rising to 5mm at the front.

WEIGHT: 2.3g.

MATERIALS: 15-carat gold, enamel, pearl.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Hallmarked for 15-carat gold, Birmingham 1873. Fifteen-carat gold pieces are not overly common (in the UK only really used between 1854 and 1932) and this fineness was generally used in higher quality pieces.

CONDITION: The ring is in good solid condition but a little battered looking and missing some enamel, see photos.

ERA: Victorian (c.1837-1901).
